OTS Flash Message - July 16, 2007

OTS Grantees,

Hello from the California Office of Traffic Safety, known to most of our grantees as simply OTS.

This message inaugurates “OTS Flash,” what we hope to be semi-regular, informal emails to grantees.  We will update you on who is new here at OTS, pass along tips or new information designed to help you with your grant activities and reports, and basically keep the communication flowing.

New Grants Announced – You may have already seen the Governor’s press release announcing the new grants for 2008, but in case you haven’t you can click here.  We think we have another year of strong enforcement and public awareness in store.

Promotion Helps the Message – We will be pushing even harder for grantees to communicate with OTS, the press and the public about your grants and grant activities.  Why?  First, because the more your activities are known, the greater the public awareness of traffic safety is and the safer our streets and highways will be.

There are other important reasons, though.  Publicity about the proactive programs you do creates a more positive general impression of your agency.  Positive press coverage helps make you look good to your administrations.  OTS takes the information you give us, both before and after your activities, and promotes them higher up the State chain, all the way to the Governor’s Office.  We can also pass along the innovative ideas you come up with to other grantees.

Look for more on promoting your messages and grantee promotion requirements in upcoming OTS Flash messages.  We will also be giving you tips on many other aspects of grant applications, fulfilling requirements, reporting results and more.  As we get traffic safety news from the dozens of local, state and national sources we work with daily, we will pass along those that you might find interesting or can use in your important work.

See you back here soon.
